Anupam Goel is the Chief Health Information Officer at UnitedHealth Group, where he focuses on technologies and interventions that have a chance at increasing the value of health care in America. Previously he was Vice President of Clinical Information at Advocate Health Care. He’s board-certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics. Prior to joining Advocate, he was the associate medical director of clinical informatics at the University of California, San Diego. In that role, he served as the co-Principal Investigator for the San Diego Beacon Collaborative, one of the 18 Beacon communities funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. At Advocate, Anupam is the chief medical information officer for the electronic medical record used at eight hospitals. He also participates in informatics projects across clinical settings. His specific interests include using voice-recognition software with natural language processing to improve care delivery, sharing clinical information with patients electronically, and bending the health care cost curve using health information technology. Advocate has been recognized as a top 15 health system by Truven Analytics three times in the last five years.
